I am closing some companies in MAS500. One of the steps is to add an end date to All GL Accounts. When adding the end date to the Retained Earnings Account I receive the following warning: Currency detail for all years will be removed. Do you wish to continue?
That doesn't sound too good. Does anyone know what that message is trying to tell me??
Thank You

It sounds like you are in Maintain Accounts, correct? That message is when the you have an account set to anything other that "Home Currency Only" and change it to "Home Currency Only". A retained earnings type of account (account type) is restricted to only Home Currency, so you should not be getting this message. Before you update, please review the account type and currency restriction. That message should have nothing to do with setting an effective date.
You might want to check to see if you have a modification that will allow you to set a retained earnings type of account to any other currency and then allow you to post. Standard MAS 500 will not.
What that message is saying is that if you have any transactions posted in anything other than HOME currency (again - RE accounts won't let you) it will remove rows from the multicurrency history table (tglAcctHistCurr table).

Mari,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I am in Maintain Accounts and simplt trying to add a date to the End Date. This is the Retained Earnings Account and it is set at Home Currency Only. I can't change that even though I don't want to. Let me also add this is an International Company (CAD). I do not have this problem when adding an end date to a USD company. Not sure how to proceed but any additional suggestions would be welcomed.
Thank You Again,
Chas Topkis

Hi Chas,
Do not proceed before you know what will be removed. Once these records are removed the only way to get them back is a database restore.
I have tested this in 7.30 and 7.40 for the CAD company and could not duplicate the issue. But remember I am only using Demo data, so maybe my data is not in the same condition as yours.
We did have an issue on an older version of MAS 500 (7.0 or 7.05) but I can't remember which one, that wrote to the tglAcctHistCurr table for the retained earnings accounts in error. If you do not have any modifications then removing those records should be fine - you probably didn't know they were there to begin with. But to play it safe if you have a SQL IT person, have them restore production to a test environment and then change the effective date. After run all your reports and verify everything is okay. If you have a support agreement with Sage I would recommend you contact support (800)-944-5481, or you can contact your reseller.
It could be that you were on a lower level MAS 500 that allowed this posting in error, then when you upgraded the records remained in the table, but now you want to update the tglAccount table it is triggering a "fix" of the records in tglAcctHistCurr.
I hope this helps! ![]()

Hi Mari
I looked at these records in the tciAcctHistCurr table. There are 2 for the Retained Earnings Account. The first was creates in January 2011. The CurrId is that of the Company Home Currency. The dollar amounts are all zero. The second record was created March 2011. Again, the CurrID is correct but there are amounts in the CredAmtHC and CreditAmtNC fields. Both amounts are the same. We were on 7.2.16 througout and JUST (last week) moved to 7.3.
Based on your reply, we went back to a 7.2 test database and received the same error. I will call Sage support and discuss with them.
Thanks again for your help,
Chas

Hi Chas,
If in Company Maintenance your Curr ID is set to CAD (your HOME currency), you should not have any records in tglAcctHistCurr. Since all entries are made in HOME currency it should only update tglAcctHist. Verify the entries are in that table and you will be fine. Still call support to review with a dial in session, but it looks like those records in tgl AcctHistCurr will be removed and they should be. I would still do this in a test environment and verify all reports, views and numbers are what you expected (in other words - no change), and then apply it to the production enviroment. I'm not sure what happened to the data to update that table; now that you are on 7.30 I think you should be okay, but I would still keep my eye out in the future just to make sure.
Thanks!
