Defining the "User Friendly" ERP - A Sage ERP MAS 500 User Roundtable

I’ve been looking through those in-product survey results again … reading comments, making follow-up calls, and trying to identify trends.  One recurring theme seems to be the comment that the software could be more “user friendly”.   The challenge for me when I read that is, what exactly does that mean?

  • Are there too many steps?
  • Is it too hard to move around?
  • Are the processes too complex?

You might be surprised to know the number of person-hours we dedicate to trying to improve the usability of our products.  Did you know for instance, that we have a whole team dedicated to user acceptance testing?  Did you know that every release and each new feature goes through user acceptance review before it gets approved for general release? And yet release after release and survey after survey the same theme persists.

Why is that I wonder?

  • Are we not asking the right questions?
  • Are we not hearing the answers?
  • Are we not implementing the right interface or workflow design improvements?
  •  Are you not adopting the newer releases fast enough to take advantage of the improvements to have the results show up on the surveys?
