In Mas90 does anyone know if there is a way to assign or import into the Average Cost field in inventory? Possible or not?

In version 4.40 and above you cannot assign/import  into that field.  It's calculated.  Prior versions allowed you to import into that field but that was a flaw in the software.

Lorry, even if you could, and in some versions you could, as soon as you do another inventory transaction it would be re-calculated and your efforts would be for naught.
