371 GL restructure

Calling all 371 guru's.  Client has MAS90 371 core modules only.  GL structure is currently 3-3, but they don't use the 2nd segment as a true 2nd segment (dept, location, etc).  They really just use it as an extension of their main account or a sub account of the main account.  They don't have the different 2nd segments setup in department maintenance either.  An example of their account is 100-E&W.

Tried going to 4.30 and stopped due to invalid characters in the account numbers.  Those are now fixed, but when I discussed having to create the depts, or location in 371 for migration to 430, that's when the usage of the 2nd segment came to light.  They really would like a 6 character main account and no segments.

So I changed the 371 structure to 6-0 in structure maintenance (just changed it!) and it recalibrated the GL account to be 6-0 making 100-E&W to 100E&W.  Disregarding the & in the GL number (that's been renumbered in 371 now), I can't believe 371 just let me change the structure the way it did.

I test migrated to 430 and it all seem to come thru ok and converted ok.  My question to the guru's is:  Do you know of any fallout from doing this change and does this seem weird that it just let me do this or was 371 that 'open'?  Do I need to have them process in 371 with this new 6-0 for a bit to make sure all looks ok before migrating and converting to 430?  My GL balanced after the conversion (suprise, suprise) but concerned about other issues if any.

Thanks

Nancy

Re: 371 GL restructure

In v3.71 the GL account is actually stored as a nine (9) digit number for example 123456789 and NOT like 123-456-789. The account breaks is just for formatting which is why it was so easy to change.

Re: 371 GL restructure

So in your opinion, I'm good to go with the migration to 4.3 or 4.4?

Yes and if you run into any serious issues just remember there is good money to be made on fixing them :smileyvery-happy:
