Here's a mystery: On our most recent payroll, all employees were give double the amount of vacation they are supposed to receive. In other words, an employee who was supposed to receive 0.78 received 1.56. An employee who was supposed to receive 1.56 received 3.12, etc. This happened with all employees who were paid. We are able to review the Hours Available on the Benefit Accruals report from both pay periods and compare, thus, our determination that it is incorrect.
All benefit codes are set properly and all earnings codes are set to accrue as we wish. Indeed, we haven't made any changes to the system since the prior pay period. Accruals for the prior pay period updated correctly.
I rely on our in-house payroll expert to do payroll functions but is there a processing step which could be done twice and cause this problem?
Most critical, of course, is that we figure this out so we can prevent it going forward.

Oops. I knew I was going to forget. We're using 4.3.0.16.

Sometimes, the simplest solution is the easiest, though it can be quite difficult to find.
I think I've discovered what the problem is and he simplicity of it is going to make you laugh, I have no doubt! ![]()
Recently, we upgraded the computer which our payroll clerk uses and in the process, the IT guy changed the mouse setting in Windows to use single clicks instead of double clicks. Our payroll clerk was in the habit of clicking once on an icon or MAS-200 menu option and then pressing the enter key to start the program.
Since the time of her upgrade, she has been getting an error message that says, "Another task is attempting to start up. Wait for this task to start before invoking another task." Usually, of course, that means someone else is using the program but we knew that wasn't the case. Alternatively, it means a menu item program was started twice but it didn't appear to be the case at the outset.
The most baffling thing about it is that we couldn't reproduce the error on any other computer in the office. Maddening, to say the least!
This morning, I stood next to her while she reproduced the error on her computer and sure enough, I noticed that the mouse pointer was not the arrow but was instead, the single click hand pointer. I took the helm and was able to duplicate her error with ease and was able to let her know about the change in her Windows configuration. On-the-spot retraining.
Anyhoo, as I speculate furter on it, I suspect that somehow, there was a similar problem at play when the vacation and sick accruals were calculated. When we run payroll today and tomorrow, we'll know. I'll get back on here and update when we know.

That goes to show you that sometimes you have to observe the problem!

Problem appears to be solved. No double accrual. Even though I had watched our P/R clerk on prior occasions, it was that one minor detail which went unnoticed and caused the persistent problem.
