Is there a way to create a "posting calendar" or a posting end date for the general ledger without processing a Period End? We have come across instances where we had completed financials only to find out that someone had inadvertently created an entry in the prior calendar month. For example, I'd like to set the "posting calendar" date for February 10th for fiscal January. This would, in theory, preclude any entries after February 10th from being posted to the ledger from any module into January. It would certainly help to tighten up the close process in a large multiuser environment.
New to the forum so thanks in advance for any help provided.
Thanks!

That is not a feature that MAS 200 currently has. You can lock people out from prior periods using the setting in company/role maintenance.

With the business framework it is not necessary to close the GL on a monthly basis. Our current open GL period is January of 2011. When our CPA let's me know that all entries for 2011 are complete then I'll close forward to 2012. This is common. I know companies that leave their GL open for as long as two (2) years.

I don't think that was the question -- it was how to lock people out as of a particular date. Only by closing the module on that date (when everyone is out), you can lock people out of posting to the prior period, but the question was how to do that WITHOUT running period end.

However, G/L is very tolerant of re-opening a period in 4.x.
You can close the G/L and then come back later and re-open it by going to G/L setup options and changing the date back so that you could then do a general journal entry to fix something later. I do that all the time.
I would NOT do that for any other module however.
