SData has not been "shelved" although its near-term purpose within MAS 500 will be fairly limited, As Trevor mentioned earlier, this has not been targeted to a specific release as of yet, but work is underway.

As a Sage SalesLogix Business Partner I can tell you this:
A - SData is part of the present Sage SalesLogxi Product - both on premis and in the cloud.
B - Latest info on MAS 500 that I have is... it's not on their schedule to do SData (per contacts I have inside Sage).
Having said the above... it is possible to use third party technologies liek Orbis TaskCentre w/their new web services connector tool to link up to SalesLogix (in the cloud) and also connect to your on premis MAS 500...
FYI - You can connect X3 (and Sage 1000 AFAIK) and SalesLogix TODAY using the SData "Integration Contract".

Glad I never took the time to dig deeper into it for MAS 500. Seems it would've been a waste of time..

Further proof that MAS 500 is not very high on Sage's list of important products.

Sage ERP MAS 500 is here to stay. This product is a strong contributor to the ERP portfolio with a roadmap that extends well into the future. At present, SData integration remains a long-term strategy for Sage ERP, but has not been identified as a near term priority. Rather, we are concentrating on delivering customer prioritized feature and technology enhancements such as Sage Payment Solutions Credit Card Processing, eBusiness Suite web capabilities, Business Insights usability enhancements, Customer Refunds from Cash Receipts, and about 15 other enhancements in version 7.4. For additional details, see the attached What's New in v7.4 document or visit our video library on YouTube. Our integration with SalesLogix is currently in the testing phase and should be available early 2012.
If you have additional questions regarding this topic, I would be happy to speak with you personally.
Thank you for your interest,

No product should need "defending".
The subject of this thread is all about WHEN will MAS 500 support SData - plain and simple. It is not about MAS 500 being a "good" or not.. and it's not about all/any features added or to be added to MAS 500 - except SData.
I started this thread on March 30, 2010 - it is now November 21, 2011 - a year and (almost) 8 months later and we do NOT have a clear and concise answer on when/IF Mas 500 will have SData capability and also support Integration Contract. The result is that we have had to develop our own "hacks" to deal with the problem (NO, ERP link and/or DynaLink are NOT good solutions - I know, I'm certified in both).
With SalesLogix In The Cloud, the ONLY way you can integrate is with SData.
NOTE: It's really strange that ONLY X3 (in North America) supports SData (and the Integration Contract).
