Does anyone know what causes a Sales Order to remain in the open sales order files once it has shipped completely, with a status of Backordered ?

It shouldn't do this if it shipped completely.

Yes, exactly, it should not be doing this, but it has happened to this client multiple times and I can fix it but was wondering if this has happened to someone else and what could be causing it.  It is version 4.3 Enterprise version.
