Here's the situation - I have one client with three different locations but they all use one company in MAS 200. Sage Payment Services is telling me they will need three merchant accounts, one for each location. My question is, how would you set that up in MAS 200? The only way I can think of is to use separate payment types for each location e.g. VIS1, VIS2, VIS3, etc. I see all kinds of potential errors with this option.
Is there any one else who has done this??

We have 3 sites, and the 2 branch offices and about half a dozen laptop users access the main DB via Terminal Services. We run SPS and use only one merchant ID.
Once upon a time we did have seperate merchant IDs for each location because accounting wanted to allocate the credit card fees to each office. We solved it by creating payment codes that denote each office. I added it to the settlement report as a group by to get the totals they want for fee allocation.
The short of it is that it's possible using SPS to have only one Merchant ID for the entire organization, because that's how I'm doing it.
Hope that helps.

Did SPS say why you had to have 3 merchant IDs if there is just one company?

A lot of people toss around the word "legal" when it is really regulatory, contractual, procedural, or even just "normal". I highly doubt you would go to jail by using one merchant code with 3 branches (but I'm not an attorney, just a common sense guy).
Reconciliations may make it desirable to have more than one ID but I also see that one ID avoids multiple fees and gives you better volume for lower rates. We had one ID for two separate divisions and only added a second when we wanted to delineate the identities on the customer's credit card statements.

I think SPS may have given you incorrect information. I worked with my SPS rep regarding a client with 24 MAS 90 companies. We had the option of getting 24 accounts or one account to be shared among the 24 companies. Sharing one account among multiple entities poses a reconciliation challenge, but the point is we could do either. In your case, it's the same company with multiple locations.... all you need is a single SPS account.
