Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

Darn it, almost forgot. There is a table, the IMW I think it is that contains the beginning balances. IF January is still open then it will have what we the ending balance of 12/31/2008 which became the beginning balance when you closed December. Take a look at that table.

First, most companies make a copy of the live company at years end for just such a task. Second you should always use the Trial Balance report to when attempting to tie to the GL. Never use the Inventory Valuation report.  Your only other option is to use Access and extract the IM5, remove all transactions after 12/31/2008 and then write a Crystal report based on this table. This should give you a very very close figure. I would not run the report against MAS as it will take F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Is there a reason why you say to remove all transactions after 12/31/08 instead of a range between 1/1/2008 nd 12/31/2008?

I verified we haven't closed January. So what you're saying is that the total of QtyOnHandDollarAmtBegBal

is actually the ending balance for December 31?

Thanks again.

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

Inventory Valuation report is a moving target.  Changes with every transaction.  The information that would be in the file from 1/1/09 and after would affect the balances.  You want to cut off any future transactions at 12/31/08.

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

Using IMW: Yes -- the beginning balance for the month should always match the ending balance for the previous month.  Since January is your current month, the previous month is December & this file should get you the info you need.  Way easier than using IM5.

Using IM5:  If you go this route, you need to know your current valuation and then adjust out all of the transactions that happened after the point in time you want the valuation for.  Reporting on just the transactions from 2008 will get you activiity for 2008, but not the inventory value on 12/31.

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

See Resolution ID 404960.  Unit cost and inventory value are incorrect in the Inventory Valuation Report by Period for Sage MAS 90 and MAS200.

This is a programming issue and is finally resolved in 4.4.  In the meantime there is no resolution.  So upgrade or don't use the report.

Unfortunately I found this out the hard way.  After trying to reconcile and spending hours trying to balance I finally went to the website and found this resolution.  I feel sorry for the people who have trusted that Sage Reports are accurate and just go with them without verifying all information.  I have used MAS for over 14 years and this was the biggest disappointment I have had with the software.  I find it hard to believe that a RED ALERT wasn't sent out to all Resellers and Customers because of the significance of this programming error.

I am just thankful that I am proficient with Crystal so I can write my own reports.  I also use a font large enough to read!

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

For people who use backorders in Sales Order, at least with BOM kits, frequently the Sales Order totals on completed orders are also messed up, so you can't trust any reports using those numbers either.

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

It would be great if Sage had one list they posted in a prominent place on their website as to which of there reports we should ignore because they are wrong .  I think they should also email each customer when you can't trust a report.

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

Does anyone know of a robust cycle count add on program for MAS200?

Re: Inventory Valuation By Period

Could you be a little more specific about what you are looking for?    Robust  is a pretty generic terminology.

You can do cycle counts in the current system with use of the inventory cycle field to select items.
