I'm told that once we went to version 4.4 the character limit for inventory part numbers would be extended from 15 to 30. However, we are on 4.4 and it will not allow us to type any additional characters past 15. Is there something required to "turn this on" or am I mistaken regarding the change?

You need to "turn this on" in Common Information Setup before you can use it.
