Trying to modify the sorts for the Component requirements report. 

It does not appear that you can modify those.  Am I missing something?

Need to have that report summarize by item number for all bills listed and not by the parent bill number.

The sorts are probably controlled by the Providex work file.  A bit like trying to control the sort on AP Checks - PVX controls it.

For this report the order of the data in the work file should not make any difference (unlike A/P checks,  because the check numbers are preassigned there thus messing up the ability to resort it).

In crystal,  go to report | record sort expert and change the order of sorting there.    That will change the order that the info in the work file is sorted however,  that doesn't mean the report will be meaningful in the design already there,  you may have to modify some of the other details to make it all make sense.
