We're using MAS90 v. 4.40.0.3 and have over 2,000 inventory items, of which I found a problem with only two, so I don't know how big of a deal this might be.
The issue was discovered when both of these items displayed a negative average cost when used in BOM Production Entry yesterday.
- In the case of each item, this was its first transaction of the year: No receipts, no disbursements, no adjustments, no anything.
- Each item had the correct (positive) average/unit cost at year end.
- Closing December 2010 Inventory is the only known change.
- The Inventory Detail Transaction report shows no changes to quantity from Dec 2010 to Jan 2011 but shows a change to a negative cost from the Ending Balance Unit Cost 2010 to the Beginning Balance Unit Cost in 2011.
- These are the only 2 items known to have this problem. They were created with our installation in '09 and appear no different in Inventory Maintenance than any similar item.
- They do have the same product class, but they share it with some 600 unaffected items.
If anyone can explain this, I'm all ears, because I'm out of ideas. I have looked at every item in our system and these two are it.

Have you looked at the detail transaction history for each item?

Did the items go negative in Dec? If the items had a negative amount during the prior month(s), it is possible the cost amount got corrupt and the period end process caused the change. No definite backup for this, but we have seen similar issues with our system.
Using MAS200 v4.2 & MAS90 v4.2, FRx (w/Report Server), FRx Webport, & F9

Rene´ Descartes must be spinning in his grave because Sage has seen fit to change the basic laws of math. I have never agreed with negative cost. If you have a negative quantity on hand you would of course have a negative valuation but to get a negative valuation you multiply by a positive cost NOT a negative cost. How Sage justifies a negative cost is a mystery.

The quantities did go negative in December; I ignored that since we added stock in December and ended with positive quantities for each item, verified by a physical inventory.
Thanks - at least now I know to be on guard when we go into negative quantities.

A quick test in house with an average cost item didn't yield results similar to what you are reporting, so your time to report this issue to Customer Support would be very much appreciated.
