OPTION BIlls and Inventory

Does anyone understand how the option bills work with inventory and SO??   if we use an option bill and produce a product for inventory, it seems  there is no way to track this. and even more frustrating is that if i build a product with an option, isales order will let me sell the item i dont have in inventory....    is there some way to track options in IM  and prevent SO from allowing you to sell options that are NOT  in inventory  BTW  all of these items are serialized

Re: OPTION BIlls and Inventory

When you build an item with options, if your item is serialized, then it will go into inventory as a serialized item.  You must select that as the item you are selling when you invoice/ship.

Re: OPTION BIlls and Inventory

but the person entering a sales order has no idea what options, the item that is actually in inventory  has  .   it lets you select from what options are available to choose   but maybe you built an item with one option   but the person entering the sales order selects a differtent  option that is NOT in inventory.....    it would seam that if i build an item with certain options, that these options would be attached to this option

Re: OPTION BIlls and Inventory

that post didnt come out right.....what i mean is that if i build a specific product with specific options and put it in to my inventory, then how do I know what is actually in inventory........     there is nothing that i can find that shows which options are included in the inventory item. IN addition when a sales person selects this item to sell....he/she has no idea what  options  are on the itme in inventory. in fact  so oreder will let you select any option regardless of whether the item actually in inventory has this option or not

Re: OPTION BIlls and Inventory

Interesting.   Never really thought about this.

I think in your situation,  if you are stocking quantities prebuilt in certain configurations they probably should be set up as different bills and inventory items.

I think that option bills tend to assume that they are a build to order item .   I.E. you would not be stocking it without already having an customer order in place.

For example, I just recently ordered a new outboard engine for my sailboat.   There were a number of different models and options.

9.9 horse,  electric start/no electric start,  power tilt/no power tilt  --   all of these options I believe were prebuilt and the items are sitting in inventory so they would be their own model or inventory item.

I believe that other things were options such as the type of propeller,  remote control,  etc.  that would be tweaked out after the order was taken.  These would be option bills.

Re: OPTION BIlls and Inventory

I would think you'd want to have the item Lot or Serial based.  Then, when someone was ordering, they could either order an existing option-built item or build a new one.

Dawn,

I understand what you are saying,  but I think the problem he is having is that MAS doesn't internally keep a record of what the composition of each serial number is (or at least I don't think it does).

You would have to manually keep track of the options selected for each item outside of MAS.

Unless you made it part of the lot number (or a UDF on the lot number).
