When you copy a quote to an order, what would you want it to do -- put on backorder anything not in stock for all lines?

Dawn. This is what we would want it to do when it is converted from a Quote to a Sales Order. If it could check the lines to see if there is quantity available at the point of converting it and backorder any quantities that are not available.
Any ideas of how to do this with scripting in 4.4? We have a new implementation that this is a big problem with. Any ideas for a good workaround would be helpful. The sooner the better.
Thanks.

I spoke to a Master Developer and they told me this would be a significant change to the program - this was their reply:
Per email from developer: "Our engineers looked at your request, and unfortunately find that the MAS90 Sales Order business framework would need to be altered (customized) to accommodate these changes. The bottom line is that the work involved would likely exceed several thousand dollars in cost, and could be in the 10k range, and the changes would need to be reviewed and possibly updated for each and every monthly Sage service update or product update.
Because of these factors, and because of the extent of the work that would be required to prepare a specification for this project, a fee of $800 would be required to prepare a specification for this project. The specification that would be supplied would include the details of the custom work to be performed as well as the cost of actually programming this project."
At this point we are once again looking for another quoting tool that integrates with MAS200. How unfortunate that an Accounting Software package doesn't have a basic quoting tool that will accomodate customer needs. I have put this on Sage's enhancement request list but when I called Sage they could not give me any answers as to when or if this change would be implemented.

LSA,
That is pretty significant. I can't believe the change would be that much. I would think this could be accomplished with a custom office script in 4.4 even if it was a button that you could press to check quantities and then update any that are not in stock to backordered.

I have spoken to two Master Developers. The first said they would not do the project and the second was the comment I posted. If you find a way to accomplish this please make sure you post it. Thanks.

I even tested copying from a Quote to a new Sales Order and thought that would do it. No luck. I am going to have my custom office scripting person at the office take a look at it tomorrow.
I know Dawn is pretty good with scripting solutions too...maybe she will post a recommendation here. Dawn, any ideas?
