We are looking at the Quote option in Sage's Sales Order Module. Version 4.2. When testing I noticed that when you enter a quote if the quantity on the quote is greater than what you have in inventory it will pop-up with the screen to use an alternative warehouse or put the item on backorder. If you choose backorder - it ignores the entry and just puts that amount on order (not populating the back order field).
When you convert a Quote into a Sales Order it currently does not change the back order quantity unless you either delete the line and reenter it or change the quantity (if you reenter the same quantity it will not bring up the screen to put the item on backorder - even if you don't have enough quantity on hand).
If we use Sage's quoting tool will we always have to rekey our quantity once it is converted to a Sales Order to place an item on backorder? Currently we use another quoting tool and when we key in the Sales Order we can immediately place the items on backorder.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do not use it very much.
When I enter a quote for an item that is on backorder, the backorder field is populated with the backordered amount. So I do not know why yours isn't. I'm running v4.3, but it has always worked this way for me.
When you convert a quote to an order, it does not re-check quantity available. I believe that someone has put in an enhancement request for this.

I am not sure if this helps at all, but we use quotations all the time in 4.10.
We accept the quantity listed and note with a "/C" or under comments about stock/delivery. This being said, we don't use the other options in the pop-up box.
We are a seal and gasket company and a lot of items are made to order so this pops up all the time.
We print Pick Sheets and write in any back orders, then invoice what we ship & print a back order for the balance.

I thought it might be an enhancement request - but hoped someone had found a workaround.

This sounds a a LOT a bug that will be called a WAD (Works as Designed, though not as Desired). I would suggest that you contact tech support to verify how they would classify it.
Next go to this site Suggest an Enhancement: https://www11.v1ideas.com/SageERP/MAS90and200 and write it up. Encourage your fellow MAS users to go to the site and vote for it. Maybe you will get lucky and Sage will fix it.
Worth a shot!

We do the same thing as ORingKing. IMHO, backorder quantities are irrelevant for a quote as many things can change the available quantitiy between the time the quote is issued and the order is actually received.
We also use the Pick Sheet as a packing list and annotate the quantity being shipped manually. We have had other issues with a new sales order having BO quantities prior to an initial invoice so we have avoided that aspect of Sales order processing.

Good day
I see some time ago you were thinking of using the quoting tool. I too am now considering using this option verses our database and document way. I see that there were some backorder issues that after I tested I do not see. I do have some concerns with using this feature and was wondering how it is working for you? Did you experience any issues? I am thinking of using a numbering system to identify quotes differently and then creating a new sales order number and coping the quote to the new SO number. I was courious how you have made out with your process of using this feature. Any input you can offer I would greatly appreciate.
Thank you
It is exciting learning new things.....

We haven't implemented this yet. Still having concerns over the quantity on hand not being checked when converted to an order.

I still don't have a decent solution for this issue. I contacted Sage and they said "an enhancement suggestion" was currently out there but could get no other response and they weren't sure what the status was on the enhancement. We may have a quote with over 100 part numbers - I can't imagine how people are dealing with this. It really makes me wonder how many customers use the Quote function.
