Serial number in BOM for parent & component

Can we have serial number in parent and component items to speed up the RMA process for tech support?  You can either use parent item number or component item's serial number to know which Invoice or SO number belong to when customer called.

Re: Serial number in BOM for parent & component

Unfortunately, component level serial number tracking is not available in MAS 90 or MAS 200.  It seems to be a huge hole in the product, but there must not be that many end users who need it or Sage would have addressed it by now.  I know the reseller channel has been asking for it for many, many years.  Maybe with the new framework (v4.4 and higher) Sage will re-evaluate it.  As of today, it's not on the product roadmap.

Do you have any work around solution for component level serial number?

Re: Serial number in BOM for parent & component

Count us in on the wish as well ... Revere Supply is keeping track of serial numbers via comment lines on the invoices.  I have a Crystal Report that prompts for the Serial Number to be tracked and it searches the comment lines of all the invoices in Invoice History.    We were hoping to eventually initiate the use of the Serial and Lotted item feature in MAS200 but from what is being said here, we would be having more problems using it.as we have serial numbers in the both the parent and component level.

Oh well...we are on 4.3 .. maybe by fall of 2011 when we upgrade again, Sage would have resolved it.

We have top level assemblies with serials that have component sub assemblies with serial numbers, but they have the same serial numbers as each other and the top level.

Get use to dissappointment. With v4.40 Sage has stated that they consider the work of converting modules to the Business Framework done so don't expect any changes to Bill of Material. The issue of not being able to track which serialized item had what serialized part put into it has been a huge hole in Bill of Material and Work Order since the beginning. Unless you do completions one at a time there is no way for this information to be logged in MAS.

Re: Serial number in BOM for parent & component

Ah yes, for the items that have components with serial numbers, we are in fact completing them through WO one by one.  Barcode scanners help :smileyhappy:

As to the rest of your post, are you freakin kidding me?!  Is there anything, aside from acquisitions, that they aren't just half assing?  They are going to have the world's largest, worthless, product offering before too long.  I've been a big supporter/defender of MAS 90/200 for years, but it's really becoming more and more difficult.  In the time it took them to implement scripting, some software companies have implemented fully-integrated code engines (e.g. vba) and automation interfaces into their products.

My mantra has always been that the key is having a solid core for an ERP, with proven business logic, debugged over a long period of time... and then you build on that.  But I can't even get sales and backorders to add up properly these days in 4.3.

Just because a module moves to the Business Framework doesn't mean it's not going to be touched again.  For example, AR, SO, and Bank Rec moved to the business framework in version 4.10.  But in version 4.40 they had feature adds put into them (e.g. cash receipts by invoice number, authorized purchase control, positive pay, etc.)
