Shipping Exploded Kits

[ Edited ]

I have a Kit that i chose to explode on the Sales Order.  When the sales order is being shipped via the Shipping Data Entry, I was told by the Shipping department that not only do they have to enter the shipped quantities of the components, but have to enter the Shipped quantity for the Parent Item (the Kit).    Is that normal ?

My second question to the group is this.   We are now going to start using Scanners for picking/packing.  How can a Kit's item number, location, etc. be scanned if only the components are being picked?   If they do not scan the Parent item, then the Shipping Department will see the Parent item (kit number)  backordered on their screen.    How are any of you handling this?

I'm on MAS200 ver 4.3

Thanks for your input,

Kerry

Re: Shipping Exploded Kits

On question # 1, yes this is normal. Working as Designed. Normally you ship the parent item and all the components will be shipped also.

On question # 2, we use scanners and normally we only use it to scan the serial numbers in distribution.

Re: Shipping Exploded Kits

What version of MAS?  Is the kit created using BOM?

Your shipping department may be entering it incorrectly.  I just created an exploded Kit on a SO.  I then went into shipping data entry and shipped that SO.   It exploded on the shipping entry screen as expected.  I then entered the quantity shipped on the PARENT line and pressed enter.  It then auto completed all subsequent lines associated with that parent item.  This was using MAS 200 v4.2

Is your shipping department completing the parent line first or last?  Have them complete the parent line first and see what happens.

It's all about the bottom line!

Re: Shipping Exploded Kits

We are on version 4.3.

I just did a test on shipping an order with an exploded kit.  I said the parent line was shipped and did nothing to the exploded component lines.  The end results was as relayed to me.  The component lines were placed on backorder.  Unfortunately, according to BigLouie who said this was as designed, it's somewhat addtional labor in the manufacturing world to do this for all the exploding kits.

The ideal way for it to work would be automatically change the ship quantity in the components if the parent item was shipped, then allow for the user to change the quantities of the components (in the rare instance where a component is not needed or out of stock, but the kit is going to be shipped anyway).

Re: Shipping Exploded Kits

Kerry, what our shipping department does is to first ship the Kit item and then click the Ship Remaining button which ships all of the components. They then distribute the serial numbers. With the grid pattern in v4.30 they can just scan away.
