importing QOH with Items

Hi -

I am importing Item Numbers (M90, V4.2) using VI. The VI log shows the QOH imported properly, however when inquiring into the items, the QOH shows 0.00 for all items, as does the Valuation report. VERY FRUSTRATING after writing numerous imports to accommodate the different source documents and trusting my import logs.

Any ideas as to:

Why the log lied (oh, that's not nice) why the log was inaccurate.

Why the QOH did not import as the log displayed.

Are there secrets that I am unaware of? I know there are many secrets when it comes to VI and each time I write an import I learn a new secret. Maybe there should be a section on the web site just for VI secrets :smileyhappy:

Thanks for your time.

Kind regards,

Kathleen

Re: importing QOH with Items

Quantity On Hand is based on costing tiers in the IM3 Item Costing file if the valuation is FIFO, LIFO, Lot or Serial. You have to do a transaction entry to generate these records. Is this system startup?

Re: importing QOH with Items

Hi -

Thanks for the welcome :smileyhappy:

Yes, this is a system startup. I prepared another import into the Physical Count entry. That was easy enough. I am just unsure if that's the correct way to go at this point. Any input would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Kathleen

Usually when I start a new system we import into physical count entry. This way you have a "starting point" just as if you keyed into that area.  However don't post the GL entry for the variance; usually that is part of the beginning GL balance.

Hi Dawn -

That was my thought as well, but a vote of confidence from someone else is always a good thing. Thanks to you and Louie (again) for being there.

Take care,

Kathleen
