I know this is a crazy thing to say when all of us around here are working lots of hours, taking no lunch breaks, and are generally so stressed, but I really do LOVE MY JOB. What makes my job so enjoyable is not just the great products I get to work on, but also all of the super intelligent, hard working, engaging, fantastic folks that I get to interact with every day. By now you’re probably asking yourself, “Who put the happy juice in her tea this morning?”
I’m currently working with my team to deliver enhancements in our Sage MAS 90 and 200 product updates. The first product update for the 4.4 release is on schedule to be available for quick and easy download by March 31, 2010. I get excited thinking about the value we are delivering to customers in our product updates. Just think, our customers will no longer have to wait for a year or more to see some of the features that they have been requesting! What a novel idea! Now in case you think this has been easy, think again. This has been quite a journey for us in engineering.
I am proud to say that moving to an agile development methodology using SCRUM (http://scrummethodology.com/) on top of having a super talented team, is allowing us to deliver value in our products outside of a full release cycle. The entire organization has been changing to accommodate this rapid (well rapid for most) deployment of new software. The product management team has to stay on top of defining what should be in each product update, the product marketing team needs to rapidly write the supporting documents, the support team needs to get trained, the sales team needs to be ready to demo and sell, and on and on. Then they need to do it all over again for the next product update.
This is where I get to the part where I brag about all of the folks I get the opportunity to work with every day. They have all pitched in so that we could hold hands and run together to the finish line for this first product update. Now stay tuned for the next one!
