Get Started Guides

I just switched from SagePro to MAS90. I went live this week. Although I find MAS90 much more user-friendly and intuitive than SagePro, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do simple things like entering interest income. I judt can't decide if I should use General Journal Entry, Recurring Entry or Transaction Entry. I have gone through almost all documentations I can find on my system. None of them really explains which entry I should use, what kind of source journal I should create and why my interest income entry is not showing up on my bank reconciliation check, deposit and adjustment entry. Where can I get help figuring out how to do certain things? Help!

Re: Get Started Guides

Welcome not only into the forum, but into the Sage MAs Community.

Please tell me your Reseller/Partner didn't just sell you the package, implement it and not give you training?

If this is the case you need to contact Sage; but, if your company convinced the Reseller you could figure it out, good luck.  We will help you were we can but I would suggest that you consider at least taking online courses.  You can find the oonline course at http://www.sagesoftwareuniversity.com/

To let you know, you will get better results to your issues if you post them in the correct area.  This question should have been posted in Core Financial Modules.

Re: Get Started Guides

AvoMan --

Use Transaction Journal Entry when you want the transaction to show up in bank rec.

Your source journal type should be financial (is that what you were asking?).

A couple of tips for self-learning just in case you aren't aware of them:

1)  When you want more info about something in MAS90, click the question mark in the lower right corner of the screen & select "about this window".  That will take you directly to the help files for the specific topic at hand.

2)  Create a test company where you can play around with things without affecting your real data.  You can either install the ABC data or create a copy of your own company data (via Library Master, Main, Company Maintenance).

Re: Get Started Guides

The source journal(s) you create should be specific, CR, CD, BT for cash receipts, disbursements, and bank transfers.  Each of these will then appear in the bank reconciliation as deposits or adjustments correctly and entering the transactions will become intuitive very quickly.

I echo the comment about the on-line help.  It is very well done and fairly thorough.  Also, don't be afraid to ask questions.  Most people are happy to help.  Just try to keep them in the proper categories!

Re: Get Started Guides

Personally, I find Transaction JE's very cumbersome, especially for non-accountants.  I have most of my clients use AR-Cash Receipts Entry.  Use 01-CASH as the customer and away you go.  Similary, I have them process non-check cash disbursements via AP.  The only time they use Transaction JE is when transfering money from one account to another.
