Is it possible to define a default bin so that when a part is received via a PO it will be automatically distributed to a predefined bin location?

Try defining a preferred bin (Inventory Management -> Maintenance -> Maintain Inventory; Inventory Control tab).

I thought that setting was only for sales order picking, but I will try it out on our test server.

The default bin works for both SO and PO. However, it would be nice if we could set up different preferred bins PO and SO. Many times where you receive your goods is not the same bin where you sell it from.
