add UDF to a formula ?

I have a UDF that I've added to my SO detail grid. Sometimes it will be populated and other times it will not. I would like to use this field in a formula. If the field is populated the formula works fine, but if it's blank the formula prints nothing and is blank. Is there anyway I can add this field in the formula and have it print correctly regardless if there is data in the UDF? 4.50.01. Thanks.

Under Report Options select Convert Database NULL Values to Default when are you editing the report.  This will make numeric values 0 and string values blank instead of NULL.
