Hi all,
Does anybody know if Sage supports EES 4.3 on VMWare 4.0? The supporting matrix said VMware 3.5 is supported with EES 4.3, but the info is rather old and.........Quite honestly, i don't see why not....
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
Ken

I'm not sure if our client on VM ware is using 3.5 or 4.0 yet.

Can't speak for MAS.. but Sage's position on SalesLogix is that VMWare (and MS's Hyper-V or Xen, etc.) is just (soft) "hardware". They make no endorsement or specific support statements about it and have not (for years). All they care about is the actual OS (ex: XP Pro, Win 7, Server 2003/2008, 6/32 bit versions of same, etc.)
In fact, SalesLogix in the cloud is actually on Win2003 server OS's on"Xen". SalesLogix partners and SalesLogix development/QA/Tech support all have been using virtualization for years!
This is the proper/professional way to look at it. Run whatever virtualization you want and just make sure you are running a supported OS!
PS - if anyone wants to share their experiences w/various virtualization setups, lets's start a new thread and dig in. It's here to stay and if your customers/IT shops are not using it today they will be doing so tomorrow.

Hi RJ,
Thanks for your input! Yeah, that was my take on the virtualization. But my reseller says one of their clients couldn't install MAS on VMWare 4.0. (I don't have any more information other than that....unfortunately)
Sage does have a compatibility list for virtualization, see the link below.
http://www.sagesoftware.com/bestsection3/Virtualiz
While I don't want to doubt my reseller, it just doesn't make sense to me.....I mean only thing VMWare doesn't see is USB, everything else is passed down to the OS just like it is a standalone server. I just don't understand how it could possibly run on 3.5 but not on 4.0.....

Hi Dawn,
Thanks! My reseller says one of their clients "couldn't" install MAS on 4.0, and "Sage didn't have any solution" for it.
while Sage supports 3.5, I simply don't understand how 4.0 possibly couldn't run MAS correctly.....headache...headache...haha

Welcome!
Interesting that the Sage MAS group would waste their time on doing a compatibility statement on VMware... Where the Sage CRM team (SalesLogix, etc) made it VERY clear that they would not do so because it opens up a liability window they just did not want to open. They view it as "soft" hardware and only care about the Windows OS. I absolutely agree w/them.
IF one opens the door on publishing statements about virtualization, you have to include Hyper-V (MS), ESX/ESX-I/VMServer/VMWorkstaion, Xen, etc.
I agree w/you, it sure sounds technically impossible for it to run on "3.5" and not on 4.0..... I'd look a bit deeper on it. Probably something mis-configured.

Question.. WHO was doing the install/setup? Was it:
a - the BP/reseller
b - the client
c - Someone who had NO experience w/VM?
Sure sounds like the problem is located somewhere between the keyboard and the chair!
