I'll try to keep this short. My client had purchased MAS90 in the late 1990's. He owns several Companies and uses it for all of his companies. We'll his Accountant sold it to him, but told him it would not work for his cattle operation. They had been managing the books through a series of approximately 150 linked spreadsheets and spending over $50K annually with the accountant. They would spend one week entering the data, upto 2 weeks fixing missing and broken links and then enter the transaction into MAS90 GL. It was a mess.
The customer did not want any modifications to MAS90. So using GL, AR, AP, JC and a lot of Crystal Reports(CR), I moved their Cattle Books 100% to MAS90. Because JC didn't quit work the way needed, I found work arounds to store amounts to properly report Cost per Head, but yet still be able to write off death loss. I put together standard procedures for each type of Transaction. I created a CR that gave them one summary report for every lot which gave all costs, deaths and totals. This report has multiple versions so that he could see everything by lot, by location, or by ownership. I created CR's to calculate lot transfers, death loss, COGS for Culls and Railers, and finally the true COGS for the final lot sold to the packing plant. They track Inventory quantities also.
They went from getting information over a month after the transaction had occurred to having near realtime information. The went from 2 weeks of problems every month to I think 4 problems in 5 years all of which were solved in less 8 hours total. The ending cost of the project was just short of $10K in hours, but the savings in the 1st year far exceeded that amount. The Accounts annual fees were quickly cut in half. Today, with all the changes and enhancements I've done for the customer. The accountant fees have dropped to approx $6K a year and they spend approx $20K a year with me.
AND YES THE ACCOUNTANT HATES MY GUTS AND REFUSES TO DEAL WITH ME!
