I have a client that needs to Import Serialized Inventory to his new Sage MAs90 system. There are about 7000 Items to be entered at the serial level and about 3200 unique SKUs. It means that we have to manually enter everything one by one and then initialize the serial distribution. Is there a way that this process can be automated using VI. This inventory would be the opening inventory for the system.

Yes you should be able to. Are you a Sage partner?

Yes I started working for firm in GA and my first project would be to create a fresh copy of Mas for our clients. Well I have been able to export transactions into CDF (Comma delimited File) from the Transaction entry table to get an idea of the data structure for the file to be imported. What tables are to be used here that needs to be updated so they can further update the data from the daily transaction register to the GLs.
Would Appreciate your help.

To bring in beginning balances you would import into Inventory Transaction Entry and then update.

Another option is to import into physical count entry then update.

Either way works. It just depends if you need to bring in the cost or not. If cost is not setup then you cannot do Physical Count as it would bring everything in at zero cost. Since it is serialized and since you might have a range of cost depending on the serial number you would need to use VI. Note that in previous versions the import was separate imports. With v4.40 the serial number information is part of the file. Since you are a Sage Partner I would suggest getting with Scott Brady in tech support who is the "guru" of all things VI. He should be able to help with how to set this up.

I am just having a slight trouble for the Import.
The Error says: HS Record Invalid or Write Failed. Line number 20 has not been distributed.
I think I need to work on the import file as it gets a little tricky to work on a single table as comapred to two tables earlier.

When Sale Order made it to the Business Framework, importing serial items to SO invoice data entry changed significantly. Res ID 482652 discusses it. A rather special distribution record that doesn't follow the Data layout is required. The only Res ID for importing serial items to Serial Items is prior to 4.4. I think getting a hold of Scott Brady is an excellent idea as the rules may have changed in IM too.
