Installing MAS 200 4.5 on Same Server as MAS 200 4.3

We are getting ready to upgrade from MAS 200 4.3 to 4.5. I am planning on installing 4.5 on the same server, migrate in the company data and then do testing on 4.5 until we were ready to do the live migration.

I was under the impression that this was possible, but I may be wrong.

I talked to Sage support a few minutes ago and they said that it should be possible but that we should not install the new version of Crystal Reports because it would interfere with the old version. This is a problem because I need to test all of the new forms before we can go live.

Is this common practice or do I need to install to a new or different server to do my testing?

If it is possible, can someone let me know what I should be aware of going forward?

You should be fine.

The thing to note: If you click to modify a report within 4.3, it will open up the Crystal Reports XI program to modify it. If you make changes to it and save it, that report will become unrunnable in 4.3 then.

Re: Installing MAS 200 4.5 on Same Server as MAS 200 4.3

I have performed and upgrade myself. I did it a few years ago going from 3.71 to 4.3, but for that one we installed the new version to a new server.

In your opinion, how much more difficult is it to install to the same server as opposed to installing to a different server?

The goal of using the same server was to save time and money. If you were me, would spending a few thousand dollars to have a fresh server for the install be justified to save ourselves the headache?

Keep the same server (as long as it meets up to the required specs per the compatibility matrix). I haven't had any issues yet upgrading clients from a 4.x to 4.4 on the same server.

I haven't started upgrades to 4.5 yet.

If you need to MODIFY reports, you could load Crystal on your local machine and modify them from there. They will run fine for testing on the server without the Crystal program actually installed.
