Pre-Migration Utility??

Where do I find above??  I have read both the Customer Upgrade Guide and System Administrator's Guide. On page 99 on the Admin guide it explains pre-migration but not where to locate it. I went to the migration utility but it was going to do a Parallel Migration so quit. I must be missing something some where.

For those who say why don't I go to my re-seller to do the updates, I've done updates since 2004. I have a good relationship with my re-seller but I prefer to do it as I enjoy it.

Thanks for any help!!

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

I'm assuming that you aren't upgrading from 3.7 based on your post.

I don't think anyone here bregrudges anyone for doing it themselves.  It's more about being scared for the person/company who doesn't do their homework first.  No one wants to see a disaster happen.

Library | Utilities | Pre-Migration

Upgrading from 4.3.

I don't see above in the new 4.4 directory. It appears that you want me to start 4.4 which means I need to create a workstation for 4.4 on the server or my desktop. I don't see that anywhere in the instructions.

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Sorry,

Library Master | Utilities | Pre-Migration from within MAS 90 4.4. (page 51 of installation and system administrator's guide - I agree , it isn't terribly clear where to find it).

Workstation setup is done exactly the same as in prior versions from the WKSETUP directory. (page 19 of Installation and system administrator's guide).

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Tom, I thank you for all your time.

Page 51 of my installation and system administrator's guide is configuring the server.

What I think must happen but I don't see anywhere is, Must I do workstation setup for 4.4 before finding pre-migration utilities?

I am very familiar with the Library master and utilities.

Thanks again.

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Hi Abe,

The utility you are looking for is in the Library Master menu on version 4.4, so to answer your question you must be in the new version to run it, which means yes you'll have to do a workstation setup to be able to run the utility.

You are looking in the Version 4.4 paper guide?  Note that if you are looking through a PDF version,  often the page number of the PDF may be different than what the printed page numbers are within the PDF.

Jim, is correct in that you must fire up 4.4 to see the pre-migration utilities.    There's no way you are going to see something relating to 4.4 in version 4.3 because you when 4.3 was released there was no 4.4.

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Update!

I installed the work station on my desktop and had no trouble doing the pre-migration. I corrected a few inventory issues and went on to Parallel Migration. Unfortunately I get a "This Task is in use" message. I was busy so decided to do a re-boot of the server and desktop Wednesday  (this morning) and was hoping that the error would reset and that message would be gone, but it is still there.

Prior to installing the work station I had clicked on the Migration application on the servers MAS200 directory Migration application, at the time I didn't know I had to install the work station. I'm guessing that in some file on the MAS200 4.4 directory it thinks that it is running migration, Has anyone run into the same issue or know how to correct it?

If not guess I'll have to contact my re-seller.

Thanks,

Abe

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Abe, sorry I have not gotten that far yet.  I ran into some of your initial frustration. I didn't install a test company or create a new user/role in 4.4 so I was trying to figure out how to get to the premigration utiltiy.  I think creating a new user and role in 4.4 was my hiccup to get into the 4.4 desktop.

But I do want to be sure I understand this pre-migration stuff clearly so I have a couple questions. I am looking at the Inventory File Comparison Report. I spoke with someone at Sage and they explained since we use Average Cost for our items that the reports is comparing the IM2 file for Quantity on Hand and the IM5 file for Transaction qtys. Someone used used the Clear Detail Transaction utility to clear data before 2005 in Inventory so I am assuming that is the reason we are showing a lot of variance in what is in the Transaction qty compared to Quantity on Hand numbers. I feel pretty confident that the Quantity on Hand numbers are correct and going to test the Inventory Balancing Utility to balance the Transaction Qty to Quantity on Hand. I just wanted to run that thought process by you guys and make sure that I understood what that utility and report does. I am also assuming that the balancing utility does not make any changes to any GL accounts or anything.

I will let you guys know how it all turns out.  I am doing this on a test system so no worries.

Re: Pre-Migration Utility??

Yes if you are using average cost then IM2 is compared to IM5.

If you are using FIFO, LIFO, Lot, or Serial, then IM2 is compared to IM3 compared to IM5.
