Is there a way to force VI imports of vendor aliases to overwrite the existing vendor alias when there is one instead of creating a second alias record for the same item and vendor?

Which version are you using, and to which file are you referring?

If you are refering to the vendor records in IM.Alias, you cannot change the number because the alias is part of the key. 

An alternative procedure would be to import the Alias file into excel, make your changes there and then purge the IM.ALIAS file and then import the replacement.  Before you do this - make back-up files and also review the data dictionary to ensure that the alias key isn't used anywhere else.  Otherwise, you will have to change that file as well.

You can confirm that the alias number is part of the key by looking at the file in the data dictionary.  There should be a link to it in the VI folder.
